General Scope: Compiles and maintains accounts payable records by performing the following duties.

Position Summary:

  • Checks and enters vouchers for payment.
  • Answers vendor inquiries.
  • Prepares accounts payable checks.
  • Maintains all accounts payable files.
  • Prepares analysis of accounts, as required.
  • Assists in monthly closings.
  • Assists with accounts receivable and special projects, as necessary.

Education: Minimum of 3 hours of college level Accounting; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge: Incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of accounting

Skills: Incumbent must demonstrate or participate in internal/external training programs to obtain the following skills:

  • Data input for checks and vouchers for payment
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Be able to communicate with vendors

  • Able to prepare monthly check reconciliations
  • Prepare accounts payable checks
  • Assist with accounts receivable
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

  • Review all invoices and expense reports for appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment
  • Process 3 way PO matching of invoices
  • Prioritize invoices according to cash discounts and payment terms
  • Match invoices to checks
  • Respond to vendor inquiries
  • Maintain files and documentations
  • Reconcile vendor statements, research and correct discrepancies

This is a Part Time role working at least 20 hours per week, but more than likely closer to 25 to 30 hours.

This role is based in Chesapeake, Virginia. Remote work is not an option.
