Position Summary
The Business & Economic Development Mgr role leads the management, evaluation and maintenance of long-term business development projects, programs, studies and opportunities. Additional duties include fostering economic growth within CPS Energy's service territory through various internal and external channels. Tracking of key market data to use for key strategic decisions related to development and CPS Energy initiatives.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Identifies and assesses a broad spectrum of energy and utility-related technologies and innovative methods in support of corporate strategic goals and objectives.
- Builds complex business models, analyzes proposals / risks and develops mitigation strategies and policies.
- Conducts research on market data related to industry topics and trends.
- Develops, monitors, and maintains projects and relationships with strategic partners.
- Supports economic development initiatives in alignment with corporate and community objectives.
- Provides consultative services to internal clients regarding technological applications and innovative methodologies geared toward solving both near-term and long-term problems.
- Negotiates letters of intent, memoranda of understanding, contracts, and acquisition agreements in conjunction with cross-functional groups.
- Recruits and retains business and new industry to CPS Energy's service territory.
- Engage City of San Antonio and local officials to provide input on the City's Economic Development plans and strategies.
- Identifies commercial/industrial customer opportunities to support electric and gas business growth.
- Develops and manages economic development metrics and milestones, including implementing procedures for tracking and monitoring projects as well as for reporting purposes.
- Works in collaboration with local economic development allies and suburban cities to identify economic development opportunities.
- Represents and maintains CPS Energy memberships and participation in local, state and national economic development organizations, conferences and events.
- Develops economic development marketing strategies in conjunction with Corporate Communications / Brand Management departments.
- Works across company cross-functional areas to establish strategic project frameworks that enable short- and long-term business goals and objectives.
- Plans curricula and subject matters that are generally not well-defined, requiring the development of relationships across all business units and organizational levels to achieve cross-functional cooperation.
Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Proven experience in the utility industry, business development and/or program management; utility experience can be financial, technical, operational, program/project management or other utility-related experience will be considered A demonstrated ability to work effectively laterally, bring people along, facilitate the best thinking and build trust based relationships to deliver results Possess strong ability to perform detailed due diligence on unfamiliar topics in a relatively short timeframe Proven program and project management skills Contract knowledge and contract development skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited institution.
- At least one of the following advanced certifications: Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), CPP, CTP, CFA, PMPO SCPM, Lean / Six Sigma and/or other utility/process related certifications and licenses.
- Ability to create and/or evaluate complex models that simulate transactions, financial and/or technical conditions, including risk scenarios.

Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Engineering or related field from an accredited university

Working Environment
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business related events. After hours work may be required.
Physical Demands
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
