Description


The Mental Health Center is seeking a Clinical Psychologist to join their team. This position will be responsible for administering both voluntary and court-ordered psychological evaluations to youth (birth to 17) and/or adults. Fluency in Spanish and/or Somali is desired.


The Mental Health Center (MHC) is a state-licensed outpatient clinic and part of Hennepin County's Public Health Clinical Services. The Mental Health Center's team of support and provider professionals provides comprehensive outpatient mental health services to adults with serious mental illness as well as those with co-occurring substance use disorders. Additionally, the Mental Health Center serves children, adolescents, and families, many of whom are involved with other county programs. Our progress toward CCBHC certification allows us to advance our goals of service excellence and the provision of personalized, coordinated, equitable care for persons we serve. Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Mental Health Center, located in the South Hennepin County Human Service Center at 2215 East Lake Street, Minneapolis, MN 55407, and remotely via telemedicine. Staff are required to come on-site for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor or the Mental Health Center leadership may deem necessary (this may include onboarding and new employee training). As much advance notice as practicable will be provided regarding the need to work on-site. Typical work hours are 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable after the new employee successfully completes probation.

In this position, you will:
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments (including presenting problems, psychosocial history, and psychiatric diagnoses) to assess a client's mental health functioning to develop treatment recommendations and treatment goals and plans.
  • Administer, score, and interpret intelligence and personality tests.
  • Provide mental health therapy (e.g. individual, group, and/or family therapy) to children, adolescents, families, adults, and/or the elderly.
  • Record notes pertaining to client progress and attendance.
  • Based on case histories, interviews, behavioral observations, and psychological test results, write comprehensive psychological reports of clients' histories, diagnoses, and treatment recommendations.
  • Communicate information in psychological reports to appropriate agencies and individuals (e.g. courts, health care providers, and family members).
  • Provide consultation to other Hennepin County entities, including but not limited to Child Protection and Juvenile Delinquency, regarding addressing the mental health needs of their clients.
Need to have:
  • Graduate degree in psychology and an approved clinical internship in the area of specialization.
  • Certified as a psychological practitioner or eligible within 18 months for certification as a licensed psychologist in the State of Minnesota.
Nice to have:
  • Experience:
    • Doctoral degree in psychology or another related field.
    • Administering and interpreting comprehensive psychological evaluations to individuals with mental illness, complex trauma, substance use, and behavioral disorders and/or developmental delays.
    • Working with persons involved in child protection and juvenile justice systems.
    • Engaging in psychological testing.
    • Working with Epic or other electronic health record systems.
  • Knowledge of early developmental needs, healthy attachment, and healthy parenting practices.
  • Bilingual competency (Spanish or Somali) and/or experience utilizing interpreter services.
