Exciting opportunities for paid Internships at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in Carlsbad, New Mexico. This is a great opportunity for an emerging junior or senior college student who is ambitious and looking for a unique growth opportunity! The WIPP underground facilities comprise a mine constructed and maintained at a depth of 2,150 feet below the surface, within the Salado Formation found in southeastern New Mexico. This formation is primarily composed of evaporates to include halite (rock salts) common to the Permian Basin region of the Southwestern United States. The formation also includes a number of clay seams (layers) at various depths throughout the formation. The underground facility (the mine) serves as a permanent storage facility for transuranic nuclear waste which is a by-product of the nation's nuclear weapons production programs. Summer internships are available in a variety of disciplines which may include:

Minimum Requirements: - Must be 18 or older.
- Must be a US Citizen due to the nature of the project.
- Must be in a degree program that is relevant to the project.
- Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college/university (high school students enrolled in college classes are not eligible).
- Must have a GPA of 3.0 or better.
- Must have completed at least 60 credit hours toward a degree and have a Junior or Senior classification.
- Must successfully pass a background verification and pre-employment drug screen.
- Must supply a current copy of your college transcript.
- Interns will be required to prepare and deliver a presentation about their experience before the end of the summer.
This is a paid internship at $30 per hour. Company reimbursement is available for some travel expenses, as outlined in policy; however, housing and per diem for the full internship period is not included.
