Job Summary

VIZ Media is looking for a Social Media Manager, Brand who will play a key role in crafting the social media strategy and execution of daily operations and brand promotions for VIZ Media's franchise brands across multiple channels including but not limited to X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. You will be responsible for strategizing and creating social campaigns and content that follow brand guidelines and tones while following trends that allow for brand expansion and growth.

In this position, you will work with many cross-functional departments including Product Marketing, Social Media, Community, Publishing, Animation, CPG, Content, PR, and more to deliver quality content and outcomes for the brands. You may need to monitor social channels occasionally on nights and weekends for time sensitive announcements and content release.

The position is a public voice of VIZ Media brands on social media networks and will need to adhere to the VIZ brand voice. The Social Media Manager must be steeped in the latest social media trends, be a strong self-starter, and enjoy a fast-paced environment with a real-time, nimble editorial strategy. Candidates should also have a strong analytical background to provide social reporting and assessing campaign performances. Qualified candidates should have the ability to align social media fundamentals and activities with the VIZ brands and business initiatives.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and implement social media strategy for key VIZ brands, including driving overall objectives, strategies, reporting, and measurement in alignment with Brand team's key priorities
  • Develop a comprehensive social media calendar while ensuring strategic content distribution across all platforms and in partnership with VIZ brand channels
  • Lead content creation and guide creative direction – including producing videos, selecting images, and drafting post copy – to improve performance based on audience insights, engage the community, build loyal fans, and spread positive sentiment that adheres to brand guidelines
  • Optimize and evaluate campaigns, launches, and new tactics where needed, produce regular reports detailing performance metrics to inform and improve social media strategy and planning
  • Work as a primary liaison with internal Creative teams and external agencies to oversee campaign executions and create on-brand compelling content that fosters fandom, supports product marketing initiatives around publishing, home video, streaming and CPG
  • Build Go-To-Market social media strategies for new Brand launches and how to grow brand pages alongside internal Social teams and/or with external social media agencies
  • Continuously develop and stay up-to-date on social media best practices across platforms and share feedback and learnings to fellow social media team members
  • Manage paid social media campaigns for key brands and region-specific programs as necessary
  • Support communications between Brand, Product Marketing, Social Media, Content to ensure impactful content launches through organic social marketing tactics
  • Prepare reports and presentations for executives and stakeholders on social media programs on a regular basis
  • Supervise community responses and commentary, serving as the voice of the brands, and work with our community management teams to engage with fans

As a Social Media Manager, Brand, you will report to the Director of Franchise Brand Management.

The Ideal Candidate Has:

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in social media preferably in entertainment, media, or related industries
  • Prior experience in building and executing social media strategies, building social calendars, creating content independently and/or with agencies, and supervise production of content
  • Proven success in leading successful and creative social media campaigns for major entertainment brands and growing growing branded social media channels and communities
  • Experience with major social media platforms including but not excluding X, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube and best practices for tailoring content by platform to meet specific marketing goals
  • Strengths with social media publishing platforms for scheduling, moderation, and reporting
  • Experience managing and collaborating with internal creative resources and external marketing agencies
  • Proficient in using analytics via social platforms or social analytic tools to continuously iterate on campaign performance to increase growth and develop content strategies
  • Previous experience with interpreting and following brand guidelines and style guides precisely
  • Knowledge of internet culture and content trends, market trends, social media best practices, anime or adjacent fandom communities
  • Video content development experience with strong vision and point of view

Additional Preferred Experience:

  • Superior copywriting skills and the ability to communicate clearly to target audiences
  • Experience with using analytics and data to support rapid growth with social media organic and paid strategies
  • Experience with social analytics tool and social listening tools
  • Proficiency with Mac operating systems and with standard productivity programs such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience using Wrike, Trello, Asana, Slack, Google Docs, Dropbox, and email
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Photoshop experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with video production process, in-app creator tools across social platforms, and video editing software like Adobe Premiere
  • Comfortable in a very fast-paced environment with shifting deadlines and competing goals
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience with a record of success

Work Environment & Schedule

Location: Open to candidates within California. This position is expected to be hybrid for candidates local to the San Francisco Bay Area (approx. 1-2 days onsite per week). Remote options can be considered pending candidate's experience and qualifications. Some business travel is expected for this position.

Schedule: This is a Regular Full-Time position with flexibility in working hours outside of our core hours of 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. The Social Media Manager, Brand may occasionally need to work late or on weekends.

Compensation: $80,000—$95,000 USD annually, depending on experience, with additional variable compensation
